An 82-metre radio transmission tower collapsed during a storm in Ponta Porã, in Brazil’s Mato Grosso do Sul state, on Monday afternoon. The storm reached the area at around 3:30 p.m. local time; wind speed had not been reported at the time of publication.

The tower belonged to TransaHits, which was taken off the air after the incident. Station manager Fabrício de Souza said a company had been called to remove the wreckage and clear the road. Part of the structure fell onto an empty lot, crossed the street and damaged electrical infrastructure, he said.

De Souza also said the energy provider and Ponta Porã’s municipal guard had been contacted to secure the site. No homes were hit, according to the manager, who said the station’s project was licensed and insured. The damage had yet to be assessed, though he expected it to run into the millions.

Civil Defence reported no injuries. Some homes were without electricity following the collapse.
