Taylor Swift has revealed that she and her best friend, Abigail Anderson, have maintained an unusual habit since their high-school years: imitating the voice of the character Napoleon Dynamite.
Swift discussed the tradition during a question-and-answer session with Toy Story 5 director Andrew Stanton after a screening of the film in New York on Sunday. She was explaining why the story of Bonnie and Blaze had affected her and compared their friendship to her own bond with Anderson.
The singer recalled moving to Nashville at 14 and wondering how to make friends. She said Anderson, who also had curly hair, shared her interest in imitating the voice of the lead character from the 2004 comedy Napoleon Dynamite.
“And we still do it,” Swift said, adding that their husbands have to put up with the habit. Her comment prompted laughter from the audience.
Napoleon Dynamite stars Jon Heder as an awkward teenager who helps a new friend run for class president while dealing with his family life. The character’s distinctive hoarse voice became the focus of Swift and Anderson’s long-running imitation.
Toy Story 5 centers on Jessie as she faces technology competing for Bonnie’s attention. According to the supplied information, the film has earned more than $1.1 billion, making it one of 2026’s biggest box-office successes, behind Spider-Man: A New Day and The Odyssey.
