Thousands of people visited cemeteries in cities across Brazil for All Souls’ Day, bringing flowers and candles and remembering relatives and friends who have died.

In São Paulo, more than 200,000 people went to cemeteries. In Juazeiro do Norte, in Ceará, 100,000 visited the tomb of Padre Cícero. At a cemetery in Rio de Janeiro, crosses commemorated victims of femicide in the country in 2025.

In Belo Horizonte, 90-year-old retiree Maria Luiza Torquato spoke of how much she missed her mother. Sales representative Márcia Costa tended to the graves of her father and brothers, saying that affection for them remained through their memories.

Photographs and messages of hope offered comfort to people grieving their loved ones. Retiree Eliane Moura described love as remembering and keeping the presence of those who have died alive.

At another cemetery, a choir of people with disabilities moved visitors, while psychologists were available to talk with people and help ease their grief. Retiree and recyclable-materials collector Maria Beatriz de Souza said a conversation with one psychologist brought her peace and tranquility.
