Three men were arrested in Itaocara, in the northwest of Rio de Janeiro state, on suspicion of involvement in the kidnapping of a 15-year-old girl, according to the Military Police.
The investigation began after the teenager’s mother approached a police team during patrol and reported that her daughter had been kidnapped. The girl was allegedly taken by force by a man who later contacted the family and demanded that another person be handed over in exchange for her release.
Police began searching for the teenager and gathered information after she returned home. The investigation led officers to conduct searches at several locations in the city, where they found three suspects and took them to the police station.
According to the Military Police, the men were initially charged under Article 243 of Brazil’s Statute of Children and Adolescents and Article 148, paragraph 1, item IV, of the Penal Code, concerning kidnapping and unlawful confinement. The provision establishes a qualified form of the offense when the victim is under 18.
Officers seized four mobile phones, 410 Brazilian reais in cash and a wireless earbud. The teenager received medical attention.
