Three truck drivers reported separate crimes at a fuel stop beside the LMG-798 in Uberaba during the early hours of Monday, according to the Military Police. The incidents involved theft of personal belongings and cargo. In one case, a 46-year-old driver was taken from his cab and driven elsewhere, where goods from his truck were stolen.
One driver was resting in his cab in the fuel stop’s parking area at kilometre 36 of the highway when six masked men dressed in black approached. One of them was carrying a knife, the police report said. The men asked him to open the cargo compartment. After finding furniture, they left the load but took his phone and bank card, then ordered him to lie down in the back of the trailer.
A second driver, aged 59, discovered that the cargo doors on his truck had been left unlocked. He checked the load and found that eight boxes of frozen chicken, weighing about 14 kilograms each, were missing—a total of approximately 112 kilograms.
A third driver, aged 58, was initially considered a possible suspect after another trucker identified his small truck as a vehicle that might have been used in the crimes. Police stopped the vehicle, and the driver said he had also been robbed at the same fuel stop. He reported that two masked men pulled him from the cab and put him in the truck’s cargo area. They drove to an unidentified location, possibly a nearby rural road, and stole products intended for delivery through an e-commerce platform. The driver also lost his phone and R$400 in cash. The men then told him to return to the highway and head towards Nova Ponte.
The suspects had not been identified in the latest police report. The Military Police said the case had been referred to the Civil Police department responsible for theft and robbery in Uberaba.
