The U.S. Department of Justice under Donald Trump has asked the Supreme Court to intervene in a legal case seeking to block 20,000 ballots in California, according to Bloomberg, as reported by ANSA.

The filing follows a decision by a federal appeals court that rejected the administration’s request to require California to set aside the ballots.

The administration argues that the ballots may have been sent unlawfully to people who are not U.S. citizens. The Supreme Court’s intervention is now being sought after the appeals court declined to impose the requested measure.
