President Donald Trump questioned the integrity of elections in three US states during a rally in Dubuque, Iowa, on Sunday, October 31. He accused Alaska Democrats of committing “election fraud” and criticized Somali immigrant communities, without providing evidence to support his claims.
Trump alleged that large groups of Somalis were moving to Ohio and attempting to interfere in elections. Referring to Minnesota’s Somali immigrant population, he said they voted “exactly as they were told.” No evidence was presented to substantiate the accusation.
The president also claimed that Alaska Democrats had engaged in “election fraud at the highest level” by allegedly coordinating the recruitment of a candidate to split votes in the state. His remarks came hours after a federal judge rejected a Justice Department lawsuit seeking to delay certification of the Alaska Senate election.
Trump repeated his view that Democratic candidate Mary Peltola should face prosecution and said such behavior could not be allowed to continue in US elections. Asked the previous week whether he would respect the results, he qualified his answer by saying he would do so if the elections were honest.
