U.S. President Donald Trump said he would like to run for president again if the Constitution permitted it. He made the comments in an interview with Miranda Devine on the New York Post’s Pod Force One podcast, recorded on Friday, October 30.
“I would love to run again if I had the opportunity, but the wording is very precise,” Trump said. He also referred to a recent poll in which he claimed to have defeated all other candidates by a wide margin, adding that more than two years remained in his current term and that “a lot can happen” during that period.
Trump has previously raised the possibility of seeking a third presidential term, while also acknowledging the restriction set out in the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The amendment bars anyone from being elected president more than twice.
At a rally in Iowa last month, Trump said he believed he had “the right to run again because there was fraud,” repeating his false claims about fraud in the 2020 election. On that occasion, he also said he was not completely certain of the legal wording but believed it did not allow him to run again.
