Donald Trump said the United States will stop providing military aid to Israel by the end of the year, following an agreement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In an interview with Fox, Trump said Israel was prosperous and no longer needed $4 billion in aid, while adding that the US would continue to help if Israel needed it.

Trump said Israel would still be able to buy US weapons, saying it could purchase what it wanted. He described the planned end to military aid as an agreement reached with Netanyahu.

Separately, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the closure of the Strait of Hormuz had cost the European Union an additional €127 billion in fossil fuel imports, without delivering any additional energy. Speaking at the WinWin Brussels Summit, she said dependence on imported oil and gas also exposes Europe to the shocks and crises associated with those supplies.

Von der Leyen said the clean energy transition was important for Europe’s climate, competitiveness and independence. She cited droughts, wildfires and floods among the impacts of climate change, and pointed to the cost of reliance on imported fossil fuels.

She said the EU aims to become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050 and has committed to reducing emissions by 90% by 2040. More than €1.2 trillion has been invested in sustainable activities across the bloc since 2021, she said, adding that such investments require long-term certainty.
