Two men were shot dead in a square in Goiânia on Friday night (30), according to the Military Police. The force said the crime happened after the nephew of one of the victims lent his own motorcycle to two suspects so they could carry out the killings. The motive was linked to disputes involving drug trafficking. The victims' names were not released.
Security camera footage showed two suspects arriving on a motorcycle. The passenger shot a man who was in the street, while the second target ran toward the square and was shot by the suspect driving the motorcycle, according to the report.
On Saturday (31), the Military Police carried out an operation involving several units to capture those involved. The suspect who had been riding as a passenger was located and arrested. Lieutenant João Vitor Rodrigues de Souza, of the Rotam tactical unit, said the suspect who drove the motorcycle and killed the man who ran toward the square entered into a confrontation with officers and was killed.
Police identified the arrested suspect as Felipe Santana Borges, known as 'mata rindo.' The suspect killed in the confrontation was Carlos Daniel Teixera, known as 'Cabuloso,' according to Lieutenant Vitor. Five people, all aged 35 or younger, were arrested during the operation on suspicion of involvement in the crime. Police also seized drugs, ammunition and a firearm.
