The Mossos d'Esquadra and the National Police have arrested two girls, aged 14 and 17, in the Maresme and Bages areas over their alleged connection to aggravated public disorder offences involving looting during disturbances in Barcelona on October 24.
According to the Mossos, the teenagers administered several communication groups created to coordinate participants in the unrest. Investigators found that access to the groups had allegedly been promoted through posters shared on social media, which provided a way to join channels used to organise and direct the disturbances and looting.
The investigation also concluded that the two detainees may have played an active role in managing and driving activity within the groups. The inquiry remains open, and further action has not been ruled out.
Separately, a 21-year-old man arrested on Saturday in Cabrera d’Anoia over his alleged involvement in organising the same looting incidents has been remanded in custody. The duty judge at Barcelona’s Court of Instance ordered provisional detention without bail on Monday for alleged public disorder and criminal organisation offences.
Catalan President Salvador Illa said on Monday evening that there would be “no impunity” for those responsible for the vandalism and looting linked to Blocus. He added that anyone who promoted or took part in the incidents would have to answer to the justice system.
