Ukraine has begun using an unmanned aircraft designed to evacuate wounded soldiers from the battlefield, according to its manufacturer, Skyfall.
The company says its Stargate drone has already transported two soldiers from the frontline. Both are now recovering, Skyfall said.
The aircraft can reach speeds of up to 105 kilometres per hour and carry a person for 15 kilometres in each direction, covering a total round trip of 30 kilometres.
A company spokesperson described Stargate as the first aerial casualty evacuation drone. The system was developed over about a year following requests from personnel at the front.
According to the spokesperson, heavy minefields and enemy drones can make conventional evacuation methods impossible. Unmanned ground vehicles also face difficulties crossing rivers and navigating rough terrain.
