The United States is supporting a rapid resumption of Russian natural gas sales to Europe through pipelines that cross Ukraine, as part of negotiations aimed at securing an energy truce for the winter, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Citing sources, the newspaper reported that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner raised the idea during a trip to Russia and Ukraine in September.
Under the reported plan, the natural gas sales would be carried out through an American intermediary in order to circumvent sanctions.
The report offers no further detail on the terms of the arrangement, the volumes involved or the status of the broader negotiations.
