Virgin Media O2, a British telecommunications operator facing significant debt, announced on Tuesday that it will eliminate thousands of jobs over the next two years. This move is part of a comprehensive cost-cutting program that also involves an increased reliance on artificial intelligence.

In an official statement, the company revealed it expects to save approximately £300 million (€360 million) through a reduction in workforce size. These savings are a key component of a wider plan designed to reduce annual costs by roughly £800 million by 2029.

The operator, which currently employs 16,000 people, has also suspended the expansion of its fiber network. While the company confirmed the scale of the layoffs as "thousands," it has not yet disclosed the exact number of positions that will be cut.
