Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asserted on Monday that a recent Russian attack on a village in southeastern Ukraine demonstrates Moscow's preference for killing civilians over continuing humanitarian efforts. Speaking in his daily video address, Zelensky argued that if Russia genuinely sought de-escalation, there was an opportunity to expand on the humanitarian mission conducted last week in the southern city of Oleshky.
The President emphasized that Kyiv had proposed extending these measures, but instead, Russian forces proceeded with lethal actions. Zelensky updated the casualty count from Monday's assault on the village of Komyshuvakha, raising the number of confirmed dead to 26. He detailed that Russian troops initially dropped aerial bombs on a school within the village, which was being utilized for the distribution of humanitarian aid.
Following the initial airstrike, Zelensky reported a subsequent offensive involving nine additional bombs. These munitions directly struck a shelter where civilians had gathered for safety. The President used these events to underscore his claim that Russia continues to target people rather than pursuing peaceful resolutions.
