Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said a devastating Russian attack struck the town of Komyshuvakha in the Zaporizhzhia region, killing at least 18 people and injuring five others. He reported the strikes in a post on X, saying the town had been hit several times by aerial bombs since the early hours of the morning.

According to Zelensky, the attacks targeted a school being used for humanitarian activities, where residents were receiving aid. Search operations were continuing for possible missing people.

Zelensky said the initial bombardment was followed by what he described as a “double-tap” attack, in which nine additional bombs were deliberately dropped on a shelter where people had taken refuge. He argued that Russian forces knew residents still in Komyshuvakha received humanitarian assistance at the site each week.

The Ukrainian president called the circumstances of the attack further evidence, in his view, that Russia does not want de-escalation or a genuinely just peace. He said the killings sent the opposite signal to recent humanitarian efforts and accused Russia of seeking to cause further casualties.

Zelensky called for a strong and decisive international response.
