Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is due to meet German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin on Tuesday, with discussions expected to focus on Germany’s support for Ukraine. Merz announced the visit during a speech to Berlin’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, saying Zelensky would be at his office at noon.

The visit coincides with the Berlin Security Conference, which is expected to focus on the War in Ukraine and defence against threats from Russia. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda is scheduled to speak at the opening of the conference, with Lithuania serving as this year’s partner country.

The meeting comes ahead of US-mediated working talks between Russia and Ukraine, announced by US envoy Steve Witkoff for November 10 and 11 in Abu Dhabi. He said the discussions would cover postwar security arrangements, de-escalation, humanitarian efforts and steps towards peace.

The announcement follows another night of Russian strikes across Ukraine. Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched more than 60 missiles and 289 drones, with Ukrainian air defences downing 309 incoming weapons. It reported impacts at 23 locations and falling debris at 14 others.

A medical facility in Kharkiv was struck, leaving at least 73 people injured and prompting the evacuation of 226 patients, according to the report. An Ukrenergo transformer facility in Rivne region was also damaged. Emergency power cuts were introduced in Kyiv and the Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
