An 18-year-old man identified as Carlos Ariel Ferreira Gomes died on Sunday, November 1, after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a rope stretched across a street in Chã Preta, located in the Zona da Mata region of Alagoas, Brazil. Local media outlet TV Asa Branca Alagoas reported that a horseback riding event had taken place in the municipality on the day of the accident, followed by the traditional Missa do Vaqueiro celebration.

To prevent vehicle circulation during the religious service, an area was isolated using a rope that lacked any signaling or warning markers. Witnesses stated that Carlos Ariel was driving his motorcycle when he struck the barrier, which caused him to be thrown to the ground. It remains unclear whether the event organizers or the Chã Preta city hall were responsible for placing the rope at the location.

In addition to the fatal incident involving Carlos Ariel, a couple was involved in a separate accident at the same site minutes earlier. Local residents assisted in rescuing the pair. Witnesses reported that the male motorcyclist suffered minor injuries, while the woman riding on the back sustained a fractured clavicle. The Chã Preta municipal government issued a statement expressing condolences for the death of Carlos Ariel and offering solidarity to his friends and family. The city administration also noted that the Municipal Health Department made every effort to support the victim's relatives.
