Ahmed Zakaria Bensaci, an accused man in the trial over the killings of Reda Khaldi, Nassim Loubani and Brahim Chabane, has reportedly received threats after giving testimony against other defendants. Chabane was the older brother of Amine Kessaci.
Bensaci’s lawyer, Naïri Zadourian, told Le Figaro that the threats came while her client was in his cell on the evening after he made what the report described as explosive statements before the Bouches-du-Rhône assize court. She said she feared for his safety and his life.
On Monday, Bensaci identified Amine Oualane, described in the report as a suspected senior figure in the DZ Mafia, as the killer, and named Karim Harrat as the person who ordered the killing.
Zadourian said Bensaci, Oualane and Malik Kariba were all being held in the isolation unit at Baumettes prison. She said prisoners could communicate through windows even while in isolation and argued that the prison now knew Bensaci had made statements against others. The report did not provide further details about the alleged threats.
