Gadi Eisenkot’s party is studying a possible alternative government to replace Benjamin Netanyahu, based on 48 seats in The Knesset and the abstention of Arab and ultra-Orthodox lawmakers, according to the information available.
The proposal would seek to form a governing majority without relying on the direct support of those groups. Its viability will depend on the positions taken during the consultations that President Isaac Herzog is due to begin on Wednesday.
The Joint List and Ra’am are oriented toward indicating Eisenkot’s name to Herzog. The former general could therefore emerge as an alternative candidate during the process to identify who is best placed to form the next government.
