Frankfurt’s city center has largely returned to normal after riots linked to youth protests over the weekend. Cleaning crews removed broken glass and the remains of burned waste bins around the Zeil, but the political response is only beginning.
Several businesses still bear visible signs of the violence. A weapons shop that masked individuals looted during the night into Sunday has been secured with a chipboard panel. A shoe store, from which young men reportedly carried away handfuls of sneakers, is also boarded up and guarded by a security officer.
The unrest has shifted attention from the cleanup to the question of who carried out the attacks. Security authorities are assessing the events, while politicians begin addressing the broader implications of the disturbances.
The available information so far describes masked looters, damaged shops and widespread disorder in central Frankfurt, but does not establish the identities or affiliations of those involved.
