Two Paris investigating judges will examine a war crimes complaint brought by Franco-Lebanese artist Ali Cherri over an Israeli strike on a residential building in Beirut in late 2024, his lawyer announced on Tuesday, November 3. Cherri’s parents were killed in the bombing.
Cherri filed the complaint last spring alongside the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), joining the proceedings as a civil party. His lawyer, Clémence Bectarte, said the filing led to two judges being appointed from the Paris judicial court’s unit for crimes against humanity.
Bectarte described the opening of the judicial investigation as a first. The complaint concerns the bombing of the residential building and the deaths of Cherri’s parents.
