Ferrari teammates Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton were at the centre of a heated row after an aggressive start from Leclerc, a near-contact duel and a track cut. Hamilton, who was almost forced out, complained over team radio that he had been "pushed out by my teammate".
A few laps later, stewards handed Leclerc a five-second penalty for cutting the trajectory at the first corner. By that point Leclerc had already pulled clear in clean air, without stressing his brakes, and his Ferrari was improving its advantage lap by lap. Hamilton was furious and would have wanted his teammate to be stopped. In a radio message he argued that the stewards had practically decided to give the victory to Leclerc, adding that drivers had all agreed in the briefing what should happen in the event of a track cut.
Hamilton's anger did not subside. After the red flag for Bottas's incident, he returned to the pit, threw a scooter aside and shouted: "We have a big big problem". The driver also insisted that the victory had been stolen from him.
