The first polling stations opened in Vermont as voting began in the US midterm elections, which will determine the composition of the House of Representatives and the Senate for the final two years of President Donald Trump’s term.

Voting was also underway in Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, New Jersey, New York and Virginia. Trump has told Americans to vote as if his name were on the ballot, framing the elections as a referendum on his administration.
