A new wave of Russian attacks struck medical facilities and energy infrastructure across Ukraine, according to Ukrainian officials. At least 73 people were injured when a hospital in the eastern city of Kharkiv was hit, the regional prosecutor’s office said. A further 226 patients were transferred to other hospitals.
Dnipro was also heavily affected. Initial reports said one person had been killed and 17 injured. A medical facility treating about 100 people was damaged, regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha said.
Energy infrastructure was a main target, according to statements from Kyiv and Moscow. Russia’s Defence Ministry said it had struck thermal power plants in the Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions, as well as several substations. Ukrainian energy company DTEK said three of its power plants could no longer generate electricity because of “massive destruction.”
The attacks triggered power cuts in several parts of the country. More than 180,000 households in the northern Zhytomyr region were without electricity on Tuesday morning, affecting around 130 settlements, governor Vitaliy Bunechko said.
Ukraine’s air force said Russia used several Iskander-M and Zircon ballistic missiles, 59 cruise missiles and 289 attack drones. It reported intercepting three ballistic missiles, 49 cruise missiles and 257 drones.
The latest strikes followed a Russian attack on a school being used to distribute aid in Komyshuvakha, near Zaporizhzhia, on Monday. President Zelenskyy said the death toll had risen to 31, while about 50 people were reported missing and feared to be under the rubble. Emergency workers said two aid workers and four police officers were killed in a second wave of strikes.
Zelenskyy arrived in Berlin ahead of further discussions involving Russia, Ukraine and the United States. He was received by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and said he planned to discuss air defence and support for Ukraine’s damaged energy supply. US special envoy Steve Witkoff announced that a new round of talks was planned for next Tuesday and Wednesday in Abu Dhabi, at adviser level.
