CD Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel has died, aged 30, after suffering a cardiac arrest following a collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during the teams’ match on Monday. Tenerife confirmed his death in a statement on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred in the closing minutes as the players challenged for the ball. Owono collided with De Miguel and was sent off with a straight red card. The match, tied 2-2, was stopped in the 108th minute so medical staff could treat De Miguel and take him to hospital.

De Miguel was resuscitated after the cardiac arrest and admitted to the intensive care unit at the University Hospital Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Tenerife. The club had reported overnight that his neurological condition had worsened.
