Junts per Barcelona has renewed its call for the city government to disclose the whereabouts of the historic streetlights removed from La Rambla during renovation works. The group says it has received no answer to earlier requests and wants guarantees about the inventory, safekeeping and tracking of the heritage items.

The renewed questions follow images circulating on social media of pieces resembling historic La Rambla lights on sale at the Encants market. There is no evidence that the items shown are the lamps removed from the boulevard. They may even be an older model with no connection to La Rambla, according to the information available.

Jordi Martí Galbis, leader of Junts in Barcelona’s city council, says the group first raised the issue in November 2025 and submitted further questions in March 2026 after similar-looking pieces appeared at the market in Plaça de les Glòries. Junts says the government led by Mayor Jaume Collboni has not responded to those requests.

The streetlights were removed in March to protect them during the works. The city government has said they would be kept in the care of its public lighting department. It has also said the historic lamps, which have four or five arms, are expected to be reinstalled near the former gates in Barcelona’s medieval walls, including Santa Anna, Portaferrissa, Boqueria and Trencaclaus. The other lights being installed along the renovated boulevard are a new model.

The historic lamps are not the original streetlights of La Rambla. Junts says a public inventory and clear procedures for their custody and tracking would help address concerns about the city’s heritage.
