Daniel Brühl has joined the cast of a new fully cast audiobook adaptation of the Harry Potter series, voicing the iconic villain Lord Voldemort. The 48-year-old actor, known for portraying antagonists in major productions such as Inglourious Basterds and Captain America: Civil War, brings his experience with dark characters to this audio project.
In an interview with web.de, Brühl offered a nuanced perspective on the character, suggesting that Voldemort is ultimately driven by fear. He noted that the wizard's terror of death is a universal human emotion that creates a connection between the audience and the villain, despite the character's darkness and malice. Brühl described Voldemort as a multifaceted figure with whom one might initially share nothing in common, yet found a relatable human reason within his fear of mortality.
The seven-volume series, titled Harry Potter: The Audiobooks with Full Cast, is being released by Audible and Pottermore Publishing. This German-language edition follows the international success of the English version. The first audiobook, corresponding to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, is scheduled for release on November 10, with the remaining six volumes following on a monthly basis.
Alongside Brühl's portrayal of Voldemort, the cast includes Nina Hoss as Professor Minerva McGonagall and Armin Rohde as Hagrid. The project marks a significant expansion of the Harry Potter audio universe in Germany, featuring a full ensemble cast to bring the stories to life.
